I was born and raised in Chicago at the beginning of the end of the 1980’s. Growing up in the 90’s was awesome for a lot of reasons and music was one of them . My mom and grandma filled my world with music. There were the artists we all loved like Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and George Clinton and the Parliament.
My mom is really into house music, hip hop, r&b and occasionally some rock . I remember her playing a lot Wu-Tang, Janet Jackson, Tupac, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a lot more. On the flip side my grandma loves jazz , motown and old school soul. She kept Miles Davis, Bob Marley, The Isley Brothers and Rachelle Ferrell in heavy rotation. My mom and grandma constantly gave me artists and music to love over time and still do. This is why my taste and interest in music started early.
I loved singing when I was little and all throughout high school as well. However I really liked to talk and write. When I got to Columbia College I pursued a bachelor’s degree in journalism, meanwhile I hosted and performed at open mics around the city . However it wasn’t until I tried radio broadcasting in my senior year that I found my happy place.
When I started as a co-host of 1heart1love1soul for Radio Depaul I opened myself to a power I didn’t know I had. As a co-host I made indie artists one of my priorities. I also made sure to give some old school tunes their just due. I interviewed artists like Hiatus Kaiyote, Leela James, Syleena Johnson, Lili K and Jaiden “The Cure”. It was a marvelous journey that lasted two years.
In February 2014 I began to host a show on Quennect 4 radio. There I was able to interview great talents like Native Sun, The Suffers, Rochelle Jordan, Maylee Todd, Erthe St. James and Brayton Bowman.
In November 2014 I joined Stepnorth Radio and have been able to entertain and educate a new audience ever since.
Now I am very excited for the opportunity work for Deep End Media and plan to bring some fresh and interesting to the network.
